The Woman’s Club of Mullica Hill
1947-Present
It started with a handwritten letter sent in 1947 — a letter that asked Mrs. John Wingate, a community activist who resided in Mullica Hill - to launch a Women’s Club in her hometown. One that would foster community service and civic involvement. Mrs. Wingate, a then member of the New Jersey Federation of Music Clubs and the Pitman Woman’s Club, gladly took up the challenge.
In response, she invited 200 women by letter and telephone to become part of a new Mullica Hill club. Seventy-five women responded, and from that single effort, the Women’s Club of Mullica Hill was born. Its first meeting in May 1947 commenced at the Mullica Hill Fire House.
Meetings take place at 6:30pm the first Thursday of September through May at
284 Cedar Rd. in Mullica Hill, New Jersey.
Women age 18 and over from Mullica Hill and surrounding areas are invited to attend.
Our History
1947
Partnered with New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs.
1949
The Red Rose became our official flower, with red and white chosen as our club colors.
1950
Established a scholarship initiative to support young women pursuing higher education.
1952
Created the Nursing Scholarship Fund to invest in future healthcare professionals.
1953
Hosted our very first Community Flower Show, a tradition that brought neighbors together.
1963
Presented the first Silver Bowl Award to an outstanding graduating senior at Clearview High School.
Community at Heart
The club’s guiding light has always been community service. The Woman’s Club has been a vital part of the its community, working at local, state, and national levels to sponsor, contribute and volunteer for efforts to support the March of Dimes, the Red Cross, the Heart Fund, the MS and MD Foundations, UNICEF, and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, among many others. Additionally, the club has helped women in need, children, health initiatives, veterans, clothing drives, and food insecurity programs throughout the region.
Today, the purpose of the club has remained the same. The Woman’s Club of Mullica Hill unites women across the community with a common goal: to support the town, the people, and the many causes and organizations that make Harrison Township a special place. Members meet monthly to discuss ways to better the community through financial support, fundraising efforts, and volunteer service to improve the quality of life for children, families and seniors. From education and healthcare to food insecurity and domestic violence, the Woman’s Club of Mullica Hill proudly supports a growing list of organizations every year.
